CAM Forum (Still Experimental)

Official disclaimer of anything to do with the "CAM Forum": It isn't run, acknowledged, blah-blah-blah, or anything by the Barony of Caer Anterth Mawr, Kingdom of Northshield, the SCA or its affiliates, or any of their officers. Though this is a repetition, the Webminister of the Barony of Caer Anterth Mawr has no oversight, responsibility, or control over it. [Nor do I (Dahrien) want such; it's in the great and capable hands of someone with the vision and resources to manage it.] The CAM Forum is not hosted via our web site or any resources over which we have any control. None of the aforementioned entities have any control over the actions or policies or anything of the service/entity(ies) offering forum hosting. The CAM Forum uses the nickname "CAM" only because it is in fact intended by its owner (and users) to be of use and interest to members of our Barony. It is the result of a private effort kindly offered by Geffroi (and any helpers he has).Sign up and use it at your own risk, and only if you want to.

A few times in the past, there have been discussions on the CAM E-mail list about whether an e-mail list or a forum would be better for communications such as those the e-mail list is used for. There seem to be many proponents for each. This past week or so, acting on the most recent such discussions, Lord Geffroi le Cherche Un Nouveau Nom De Famille set up a forum for use by CAM's folk.

Geffroi has said that it is not meant to replace the CAM list, but is meant as an adjunct to it, especially for those who like forums and have, or take, the time to visit them. He invites all of us to sign up and pop in to check it out. It is still in its first few days, as of this writing, and thus the word "Experimental" is added to mention of it liberally throughout this page and links to this page. Geffroi very much wants this to be "our" forum and is actively seeking input, especially from people actually seeing and using the site, the better to give more informed input. He is very responsive to our questions and feedback.

The CAM Forum includes a live chat feature, some arcade games, and of course, threaded forums for clearly-separated discussions. In response to one common question, Geffroi says that while the forum can notify members of new posts in threads they specifically mark, it can not actually e-mail submitted posts or provide a way to avoid having to mark threads "for watching" individually. (At least a few of the people who prefer e-mail lists to forums have said that a hybrid -- a forum which behaved perfectly like an e-mail list as well, if set up to do so -- would be a perfectly acceptable alternative to the current e-mail list.) Again, though, Geffroi is not advancing the forum as a replacement for the list. It's just someplace more for you to spend a part of your blended SCA-online life.

Geffroi writes, in the "Forum Rules" section of the CAM Forum:

This forum is an experiment to facilitate a fun way to exchange information among members of the SCA, particularly in the Barony of Caer Anterth Mawr located in the greater Milwaukee, WI area.

This forum is for entertainment and educational purposes and is not an official entity of the Society for Creative Anachronism, inc.

Please treat this forum with the same respect you would your fellow SCAdians if you were speaking with them face to face. Courtesy and chivalry are the rule.
