Youth Combat Practice

When:  (In the late Spring & Summer) Sunday Afternoons  from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

Where:  Lake Park, at the same location as the adult fighter practice.

What:  We are holding youth combat practices on Sunday afternoons.  These practices can be an introduction to youth combat or an oportunity to practice for the more experienced fighters.  Equipment will be available for inspection by both youth and parents and copies of the rule book will be available for parents to take home and review with their youth.  You can meet our friendly volunteer marshal and ask any questions that you may have.  We are currently offering boffer and youth rapier practices.  Boffer combat is a form of armored combat for youth between the ages of 6 and 17.  Youth rapier is the fought in the same style as adult rapier and is offered to youth aged 14 and over.    Anyone that is interested in youth armored combat (for ages 16 and over) please contact me so that I can find if there is enough interest to hold practices.

What to bring:

For rapier:  You must wear pants/sweatpants/leggings that cover the whole leg and sturdy, closed toed shoes with socks (three inches of overlap between the bottom of the pants and the top of the socks.  Males must have rigid groin protection (sports cup).  This is all of the equipment that is required for participation!  That's it!  If you have cuffed gloves (gardening gloves may work) please bring them along.  If you have any fencing equipment of your own, bring it along but don't worry if you have none, we have loaner equipment.  If you have a gorget from other combat it may be more comfortable for you than the loaner gorgets.

For boffer:  You must wear pants/sweatpants that cover the whole leg and sturdy closed toe shoes with socks.  Males must have rigid groin protection.  This is the minimum for participation, the rest is optional!  If you have kneepads, elbow pads, hockey masks, and other similar equipment please bring it along.  We are building up our loaner gear and selection can be limited.  If you are an experienced fighter bring your whole kit so you can practice to your hearts content and not wait for a piece of equipment.

All combatants:   You must bring a parent or legal guardian.  No exceptions and the parent must stay on site as long as you are participating!  Waivers will be available and the parent must sign them.  Your parents are going to want to stay onsite anyways to watch the fun and learn the rules so that they can practice with you.

Who:  All youth age 6 and over are invited to attend, gather information, meet other youth, and practice if they feel comfortable.  You do not need to be a member of the SCA to participate.

Why:  Because it's fun!  (Tell your parents it improves hand/eye coordination and is a form of excercise)
