- A personal favorite spot of mine in downtown Milwaukee is right off the Milwaukee Marina. There is a large jetty, some call it the army pier, that wraps out about a half mile into the lake around the milwaukee harbor and provides a fantastic view of downtown. Its located within walking distance of Brady street as well. (Go towards lake, cross brady street bridge, veer left across the marina and you'll come to the entrance to the pier right next to a boat launch.. can't miss it.)
There is an abundance of rocks stacked up on the inside and end of the pier that provides a good seat for reading or to have a quiet lunch. There is also a decent view of a light house from the end.
It's also a great place to take a loaf of bread, even cheap day-old
stuff. Throw it in the air to the lake gulls and watch them catch
slices on the wing :) . Ivan the Trounceable and I used to do this
every once in a while as a nice afternoon pastime. Good times!
- if the weather's nice, take a walk on the Riverwalk downtown.
The last time I had an out-of-town guest that hadn't been to Milwaukee
before, that's what we did.
Good for people-watching, and some of the interesting architechture
downtown is close by.
Also, I didn't see St. Josephat's Basilica
or Holy Hill on your list.
- I can strongly encourage the Zoo. It has been going through a series of upgrades recently to kept it among the best in the country. The Mitchell Domes are now open after a major makeover. I love the Old Streets of Milwaukee and European Village at the Milwaukee Public Museum.
The Seven Bridges Trail in Grant Park is a gem.
If you're interested in going a little further a field, there is historic Cedarburg. The Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive has many trails (including sections of the Ice Age Trail), parks, the Ice Age Center. Holy Hill is a short detour.
Lizard Mound County Park (NE of West Bend) has one of the largest collection of Native American effigy mounds in Wisconsin.
-
Fly a kite or go skating at Lake Park.
Shopping or browsing in Cedarburg (Wine by the river).
Wine tasting at the barn in Cedarburg
