Brewing and Vintning

The Brewing and Vintning Guild is a group of SCA members dedicated to the study and knowledge of crafting non-distilled beverages. Monthly meetings are held at various locations throughout out the Barony of Caer Anterth Mawr. At each meeting members perform certain tasks as needed such as racking wine, making wine, beer, or other beverages, designing labels and of course there is always taste testing.

Charter Of the Honorable Guild of Brewers and Vintners of Caer Anterth

Purpose:

To promote and encourage skill in the arts of Brewing & Vintning, and to gain appreciation of the merits of various Brews and Wines of the World. Members of the Guild will diligently study the History, Traditions, and Literature of Brewing and Wine Making. Members of the Guild will work closely with the Master or Mistress of Science of Caer Anterth Mawr and with any and all Autocrats appointed to plan and execute Feasts, Fetes and Revels.

Identification:

Members of the Honorable Guild of Brewers and Vintners shall be identified by their inability to walk a straight line and their flushed complexions and the redolent air of St. Bunstable's Spirit which shall, as a duty, surround them. In addition, each Member of the Guild of Brewers and Vintners shall be armed with a walnut corkscrew that each shall at all SCA functions sniff on occasion.

Ranks:

Apprentice: Any person who is interested in the study of Brews and Wines shall be eligible to bear the rank of Apprentice Brewer or Vintner.

Fellowcraft: Must have some progress achieved in being able to appreciate the Brews and Wines of the World, have the ability to distinguish good from bad, and have produced at least one wine or beer of good quality.

Master: Must be able to produce a palatable Wine or Brew continually, must be able to select a proper Wine or Brew for a dish or event to the satisfaction of the Guildmaster, must be willing to teach the craft, and must be able to create a recipe for Wine or Beer.

Guildmaster:

A Guildmaster conducts, directs and encourages all of the above mentioned activities and skills, and in addition, is the direct link of the Guild to the Baron and Baroness and to the Master or Mistress of Science.

This Guild is an autonomously chartered Guild under the Barony of Caer Anterth Mawr.
