    CRASH SPACE

In order to help people find crash space, I will ...
    1. ... collect host and guest information privately via the forms linked-to below, then
    2. ... pass guest info to hosts likely to be a good match until some host accepts that specific guest, then
    3. ... pass the offering host's info to the guest and ask if they wish to accept that offer of hospitality.
    4. ... have them contact their host directly, if they do; or repeat the process, if they do not.
... until all of the guests who contact me for crash space are attended to.
You no longer need your own e-mail to use these forms; mail is sent using our ISP's e-mail.

  • Be a HOST -- Offer Crash Space To Guests

As we would like to be able to offer free lodging to our guests when possible, I seek such offers from the populace of Caer Anterth Mawr.  If you can provide lodging for any guest or guests this year, please complete and submit the following information.  Each of the years that I have done this job, we could have used more spots for people to sleep.

Remember, people are looking for free lodgings -- many are grateful for floor space or a couch, willing to go to, or liking, a basement or space under your big table.  (See the definition of "Crash Space" under the Guest section of this page.)  Beds and other luxuries are not *necessary* in every case, nor do you *have* to wait on guests hand and foot.  If you're trusting, you don't even have to be home the whole time!  Please just offer whatever you have to offer in terms of crash space -- a place where a body can lie down -- and allow our guests to decide if they wish to accept what is offered. If you already have guests coming in, then account for them first, and only let me know how many people *I* can place in your home.
    ~   ~   ~

(Example: Ulfwyn has 3 couches, 1 full-size bed, and floor-space for 18.  He has 4 friends staying with him, 3 of whom are using couches, and the 4th likes the floor.  Ulfwyn generously wants to offer as much as he can, so he only needs to tell *me* that he has 17 floor spots and 1 full-size bed available.)

Be our GUEST -- Humbly Request Crash Space In A Member's Home

For those who simply do not know...
"Crash space" - informal term meaning, "a place to sleep in someone's home", nothing more or less. Crash space may often consist of space on the floor, but may be a bed, couch, hammock, chair, or anyplace a person might be able to sleep. Usually, one can count on use of the toilet, but "The Gas Station Story" is a cautionary tale. Beyond these, while some hosts provide further hospitality, guests should not assume that more is offered. Bring whatever you want or need that you have not discussed with your hosts, so that you don't get caught out. Clothes, towels (in case a shower/bath is offered), bedding, food or a plan for getting your food, etc. Whatever you might want or need. ... What is basic or obvious to one person may not be to all :) .

The Point: Guests and Hosts should talk before the visit, to make sure that they have compatible expectations. This is the best way for each to avoid being part of "Awful Crash Space Host/Guest Stories" -- both types exist, and some accounts are fair.

    Local Inns

When on-line reservations are possible, those prices can sometimes be better than negotiated group rates.  If you want to know that you're getting the best price, look into what's available, and phone to confirm the truth regarding any doubts.  You may also wish to compare amenities as you compare prices; the websites may be useful for this.
